We’re glad you have decided to look into our faith community. We invite you to join us for worship on Sunday. We gather together in the sanctuary at 10am for a worship experience that blends traditional and contemporary worship styles. The service typically ends around 11:15am. Here is some information we hope will prepare you for your first visit and help you have the best experience with our church and with God through the Holy Spirit as possible. If you have other questions about your first visit with us please call the office at 219-865-8947 and ask away. We are looking forward to meeting you.
Where is the church building located?
Our church building is located at 2016 Church Street, in Dyer, IN. We are nestled just north of the Galeria buildings. You can enter from Rt. 30 or from Church Street which is halfway between Calumet Avenue and Hart Street off of Rt. 30.
What should I wear?
On any given Sunday morning it is common to see the people at Dyer UMC dressed in shorts, t-shirts, blue jeans, dresses, skirts, suits, ties and everything in between. There is no dress code at Dyer UMC. We want you to come worship God with us and you will be welcomed and loved regardless of what you are wearing.
Can I bring coffee or other drinks into the sanctuary?
Yes! In fact, if you get here a few minutes early we’ll even offer you a cup of coffee to take in with you.
What happens after worship?
We offer a few Sunday morning spiritual growth opportunities after worship. Details of those opportunities can be found by clicking on the Develop box from the Home Page. In addition to that though, we offer a time of fellowship including great snack and drink options and even greater company. We hope you will stick around after worship and enjoy the food and the people. We can’t wait to get to know you better.
Where should I park?
Our parking lot is located on the west side of our building. You can enter the parking lot from Rt. 30 between the 2 Galleria buildings or from either Church Street entrance on the east side of our building.
Is the building handicap accessible?
Yes! We have several parking spots reserved for handicap accessibility; some on the southeast side of the church and some on the west side. Our south entrance requires zero steps for your Sunday morning experience. From that entrance you will have access to the sanctuary, the restrooms, the lobby where we offer a time of fellowship with snacks and drinks after the service, the fellowship hall and many other areas needed for growth opportunities. You will be warmly greeted at the south entrance by some of our radically hospitable greeters who will help you into the building and even offer to park your car for you.
Where are the restrooms?
We have a men’s and a women’s restroom located off of the main lobby. In the northeast corner of the lobby is a hallway that will lead you to them.
Do I have to be a member to take communion?
No! In the United Methodist Church we invite all people to the table during the Lord’s Supper, which is offered during our worship service every week. You do not have to be a member of our church or any other church to participate. All we ask is that you come to the table with a desire to receive the grace of Jesus Christ and a willingness to know Him as your personal friend and Savior.
Are there opportunities for new people to serve?
Absolutely! One of our Core Values is “Risk-taking Mission and Service.” We want to do our best to give all people opportunities to put their faith into action inside and outside of our church. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the Deploy link from our home page for more information about how you can serve.
